Scrapers Demystified

Scrapers, easy to make and maintain, are one of the most valuable tools in the shop.  Join Ted West as he demonstrates how to make and then use a scraper to get a super smooth surface without sandpaper, shape edges, level stock, and even clean glue.  He will also discuss another type of scaper known as a scratch stock.

Basics for Finishing By Hand

Join Gary Wood as you learn the basic techniques to achieve a fine finish on your special projects.

  • Use of varnish, shellac, and oil
  • How to add color with stains, glazes, and waxes
  • How to select the right brush or pad

  • Bring pencil, paper, and your questions

Rick Arnold

Rick has been working with wood since childhood.  He holds Associate Degree in Building Construction and Architectural Design from New Hampshire Vocational Technical College.  He has also attended classes at the Homestead School.  He currently owns a family-run woodworking business.

Ted West

Ted is a lifelong woodworker with a wide of experience.  He is the owner of West Woodworking in Canterbury, NH.

 

Gary R. Wood

Gary has been a professional antique restorer and furniture maker for 35 years, with a special interest in fine finishes.  He is a graduate of University of Vermont with B.A. in Studio Art.
